September 9th Today we listened to Mrs. Meyer read the book Neville. In the book a new boy wants to make friends in his neighborhood, so he goes outside and starts yelling his own name, Neville. After time a lot of the neighborhood join him and he meets new people. During our outdoor classroom Mrs. Meyer went over by the trees and started yelling, "Neville!" Most students started joining and some even went to grab more to help. We really are picking up on using our empathy!
September 8th Since school started we have continued to talk about empathy, including how to invite a friend to play, how to make someone happy, and we are good at something. Today we talked about putting ourselves in someone else's shoes. Also, everyone had the chance to read books from their book boxes and start writing their own stories. Everyone is a reader and writer! If you're wondering how, ask your kindergartner!
September 7th We started exploring outside during our "Outdoor Classroom" time. We used magnifying glasses, bug catchers, and binoculars to examine different things we found outside. We identified lots of ants, trees, plants, and even a mushroom.
September 6th Today was the first day we rotated teachers for focused instruction. We did really good! We also have started going to the library and listening to school expectations from Mr. Schultz and Ms. Wiersma.
September 2nd The second day of school was even better than the first! We read a few books, switched rooms for wonder centers, and talked about empathy, including how to ask someone to play. A lot of kinders picked up on it and asked new friends to play.
September 1st First day of school! We had fun learning about the 3 rooms we can go into: science, manipulatives/dramatic play, and literacy/art. We talked about rules and expectations in each room, the school, and the playground. We had time to play in one of the rooms today. At the end of the day we had a school wide assembly to meet all of Kegonsa staff and introduce us to the beginning of a new year. We are looking forward to this amazing journey!
